Notes
You preserve a tradition, bad or good, by turning the idea of protecting it into a virtue.
The psychological content of the human - the need to belong, to appear good, etc. - is exploited by ideas, just as viruses exploit the machinery of their hosts, to propagate themselves among the population and persist there indefinitely.
A tradition of criticism, in the spirit of Popper, is then needed to counteract stale memes. Such a tradition, of course, is itself a meme that exploits some vital content of the human psyche.
Clichés are stale truths.
